Plasma polishing is very well suited to process surfaces of instruments and implants made of stainless steel, titanium and titanium alloys. The low removal rates ensure shape-persistence for fitted parts and small tolerances can be guaranteed. Burrs and cutting edges can be removed gently by time controlling the polishing process without negatively impacting the quality of the cut. Artificially frosted surfaces obtain a uniform matted gloss. Plasma polished surfaces show no cytotoxic effects and are at the same time corrosion protected by the passivation of the process.

Newly developed processes will enable partial polishing of implants in the future. As a result, certain areas of a workpiece can be focused on. This would have the advantage that different surface features can be found on one workpiece.
